FocusFlow Terms of Service
Last updated: May 19, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and FocusFlow ("we," "us," or "our") regarding your use of our website (focusflowreader.app), web application (app.focusflowreader.app), and Chrome browser extension (collectively, the "Service").
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
FocusFlow is a reading tool that uses Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP) to display text one word at a time at a controlled pace. The Service includes:
- A web application for reading pasted text, uploaded files, and online articles
- A Chrome browser extension for reading pages in your browser
- Related features such as reading preferences, themes, statistics, and document minimaps
The Service is intended to help users read more efficiently. It is not medical software, diagnostic software, or a substitute for professional treatment of any reading or attention condition. See Section 9 for further disclaimers.
2. Accounts
To use most features of the Service, you must create an account through our authentication provider, Clerk. By creating an account:
- You confirm that you are at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction)
- You agree to provide accurate information and keep your account credentials secure
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account
- You agree not to share your account with others
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
3. Free trial and subscription
Free trial
New users receive a limited free trial — currently 3 free reads — to evaluate the Service. The number of free reads may change in the future at our discretion.
Paid subscription
Continued use of the Service beyond the free trial requires a paid subscription. Current pricing is $4.99 USD per month, billed monthly via Stripe. Pricing may change with at least 30 days' notice to active subscribers.
Billing
- Subscriptions automatically renew each month until canceled
- You can cancel at any time from your account settings or the Stripe customer portal
- All payments are processed by Stripe, our payment processor
Refunds
Subscriptions are non-refundable for partial billing periods. If you cancel mid-month, you retain access until the end of your paid billing period and are not charged again.
We may issue refunds at our discretion in cases of technical failure, accidental charges, or other circumstances. Email support@focusflowreader.app to request a refund.
Failed payments
If your payment method fails, we will attempt to charge again per Stripe's standard retry schedule. If payment ultimately fails, your subscription will be canceled and your access will revert to the free-trial state (no further free reads if you have already used them).
4. Your content
You may submit text content to the Service in the form of pasted text, uploaded files (TXT, PDF, EPUB, DOCX), and URLs of web pages. We refer to this as "Your Content."
- You retain all rights to Your Content. We do not claim ownership of anything you submit.
- We do not store Your Content on our servers. The Service processes Your Content entirely in your browser (with the exception of URL fetching, which is described in our Privacy Policy).
- You are responsible for ensuring you have the legal right to read, process, and display Your Content.
- You agree not to submit content that infringes third-party intellectual-property rights, contains malware, or violates applicable law.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other user accounts, or supporting systems
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service except to the extent expressly permitted by applicable law
- Use the Service in any way that interferes with other users' use of it
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute the Service or any part of it
- Use the Service to scrape, harvest, or aggregate content for resale
- Submit content that is illegal, harassing, defamatory, or violates the rights of others
Violation of these terms may result in account suspension or termination without refund.
6. Intellectual property
The Service — including its software code, design, user interface, name, logos, and original written content — is owned by FocusFlow and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual-property laws.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for its intended purpose, subject to these Terms. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
The Chrome browser extension is distributed under an open-source license (where applicable, see source repository for details), but the trademark and brand identity of FocusFlow remain our property.
7. Third-party services
The Service uses third-party providers including Clerk (authentication), Stripe (payments), and Vercel (hosting). Your use of these third-party services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of these third parties.
8. Termination
You may delete your account at any time by emailing support@focusflowreader.app. Upon deletion, your subscription will be canceled and your account data removed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or applicable law. We may also discontinue the Service at our discretion with reasonable notice to active subscribers.
If your account is terminated by us for cause, no refund is owed. If we discontinue the Service entirely, we will refund any unused portion of your most recent monthly subscription payment.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or meet your specific needs.
FocusFlow is not medical software. Specifically:
- The Service is not a treatment, cure, or diagnostic tool for ADHD, dyslexia, or any reading, attention, or learning condition
- We make no claims of clinical efficacy
- Reading techniques used by the Service (RSVP, ORP) are research-supported in general literature, but individual results vary
- The Service is not a replacement for professional medical, educational, or therapeutic services
If you have a reading disorder, attention condition, or other relevant medical concern, consult a qualified professional.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages of any kind
- Our total liability arising from your use of the Service is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim
- These limitations apply even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages
Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations; in those cases, the limitations apply to the maximum extent permitted by local law.
11. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless FocusFlow and its operators from any claims, damages, or expenses arising out of your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Pennsylvania, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any disputes arising out of these Terms will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Pennsylvania, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated via email to active subscribers at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
14. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
15. Entire agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and FocusFlow concerning the Service.
